#BantheADL Hashtag
Irish nationalist Keith Woods started a campaign on Twitter / X that got to Elon Musk.
I do not want this to be just another Substack that discusses organized Judaism. However, fairy substantial events have happened on Twitter / X that have gotten all the way up to the owner, Elon Musk who purchased Twitter. An Irish Nationalist, Keith Woods, started the hashtag #BanTheADL and it went viral. Elon Musk responded to it, claiming that the ADL crushed 2/3 of Twitter’s revenue by putting pressure on advertisers, claiming that Twitter / X tolerates “hate speech.” At the time this happened, I had not yet wrote my first Substack Article.
That is way too much influence for such a small group. I also dispute the idea that they have a right to represent Jews. It is an idea that bothers me and I would be even more bothered by it if I was halachically Jewish. The ADL is mainly a liberal organization with one exception - it is not liberal on Israel. On Israel, suddenly the ADL appears very much illiberal.
Twitter / X should endorse free speech, but if it does not, it will be just another example of a large corporation throwing freedom of speech under the bus. Free speech means the right to embarrass yourself and it means some people will be offended by your speech.
As I wrote about populism, it overestimates the ability of “the masses.” It is not a realistic expectation to expect the average Jewish person to come out against the ADL because most people are not Sigmas. Most people passively fall in line. The best case scenario, though would be a sort of disengagement. The solutions always lie in a small number of people who get their act together, rather than the average population as a whole. I certainly hope better representatives come. Jonathan Greenblatt is a Federal Agent, literally coming out of the Obama administration.
As stated before, this Substack will only discuss the issue when it makes major news and will limit the number of posts dedicated to it. There are countless blogs and Substacks that expose organized Judaism almost every post. I chose to limit posts on this mainly because I choose not to be repetitive. However, one post is okay and this is a newsworthy set of events.
